Carla Serra devotes her efforts to the use of ultrasound, Doppler, contrast ultrasound in:
- liver diseases
- portal hypertension
- liver transplantation.
- bowel disease
- pancreas disease
- vascular disease
Since 1993 she collaborates to and personally promotes several studies in these fields. She has published 40 articles in international journals quoted in pubmed, chapters of international books, scientific videotapes and other articles and chapters in books in Italian and English.
She has won two prizes for the best presentations at the respective national congresses of SIUMB.
She is member of the italian society for the study of the liver (AISF) of the italian society of ultrasound in medicine and biology (SIUMB), the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI).
From year 1996 to year 2003 she acted as tutor for live demonstration in ultrasound at the annual course of basic ultrasound of SIUMB.
Since 1997 she teaches at the national annual courses of Siumb basic course, Doppler course, contrast ultrasound course, gastroenterology course.
She participates as invited speaker to numerous national and international courses and workshops in ultrasonography and liver disease since 1998.
She was invited as a speaker on contrast Ultrasound at the Bracco IBISCUS in China (2008, 2 IBISCUS) and in Budapest (2008), at the Euroson School in Bologna (2009), Hannover (2009), Stuttgart (2013), Rome (2013), Berlin (UEG week 2013) .
She was president of the commission for the organization of the annual congress of the Italian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology in 2007.
She has been Member of the Executive Bureau
of the SIUMB (November 2009-2013).
She has been president of the Teaching Committee of SIUMB (2015-2017).
She has been elected from October 2013 to November 2017 as a member of the safety committee of the European society of ultrasound (EFSUMB).
She is responsible in Bologna of a SIUMB School of Ultrasound
From 2017 she is responsible of the national teaching for ultrasound in the internal medicine society (SIMI)
She is a temporary professor at the University of Bologna at the School of Nephrology, Internal Medicine.
